Your April donation is on its way to Water for Kids to help improve the health and wellbeing of communities in Uganda. Since 1996, they have worked alongside local partners to provide safe water, sanitation and hygiene education, transforming lives through sustainable, community-led solutions.
In Uganda, only 19% of the population has access to safely managed drinking water, and over half lack basic sanitation. In Iganga, families often rely on unsafe, open water sources that are vulnerable to contamination and can pose serious safety risks, particularly for children. Waterborne diseases such as diarrhoea remain a leading cause of child mortality, while long journeys to collect water often prevent children from attending school and place additional burdens on women and girls.
The project you have funded protects natural springs at their source, providing safe, continuous running water while establishing local Water Committees and hygiene training to ensure long-term sustainability. These protected springs can last for at least 15 years, supporting healthier communities and improved livelihoods.
Thanks to collective giving, this project will provide 1,950 people with access to clean, safe water for the first time, helping create lasting health, education and economic benefits.
Water for Kids aims to improve the health and wellbeing of children and communities in Uganda and Zambia through the provision of safe water, good sanitation and other public health related measures, where current provision is absent or inadequate. Founded in 1996 by Environmental Health Officers, the organisation has since transformed the lives of more than 512,500 people across 330 communities in nine countries through access to clean water, improved hygiene, and better health outcomes.
