Our October 1% will bring clean water to 2,860 people in Guatemala with our newest charity partner Education for the Children. EFTC was set up in 2003 to empower students in Guatemala to break the cycle of poverty with a new school and community support.
We will be funding Ecofiltro water filters which are provided to all the families in the community.
Ecofiltro is a sturdy system that uses ceramic pot filtration technology to clean around 1.5 litres an hour. Our 1% will fix or replace 260 filters. Every family is taught how to use and look after the water filter to ensure that they are maintained well and are working efficiently. Annual house visits check that families are happy with the filters and EFTC do an annual review of the predicted work needed in order to calculate the cost of repairs and replacements.
Access to safe drinking water helps students reach their potential by preventing contact with water borne diseases and prologues absences.
Educations for the Children (EFTC) is an international NGO that works in partnership with disadvantaged families, children and young adults in Central America.
Their work is centred around the School of Hope, an education facility located in Jocotenango, Guatemala: an urban area where extreme poverty, gang crime, domestic violence and alcoholism are everyday realities. As well as day-to-day schooling EFTC provide counselling and career guidance. They work with families to remove obstacles to education such as lack of food and healthcare, enabling all students to realise their potential.
Education for the Children has committed to invest 100% of Be One Percent's donation on their charitable activities and not overheads or marketing.
