Through SCI (Schistosomiasis Control Initiative) at Imperial College London just 50p is all it takes to treat a child for 7 Neglected Tropical Diseases. In October 2012 we raised enough to treat a staggering 6,792 children through SCI programmes. This illustrates just how significant giving 1% can be.

The SCI Foundation assists Ministries of Health across Sub-Saharan Africa to control and then eliminate schistosomiasis and soil transmitted helminths (STH – whipworm, hookworm, roundworm) from their population utilising the World Health Organization’s Drug Donation Programme for praziquantel and albendazole. 230 million people require preventive treatment with praziquantel, and over 835 million children need a treatment with albendazole/mebendazole, to eliminate these parasitic diseases from their bodies. Treatment prevents anaemia, impaired growth and development in children and the development of life-threatening conditions of bladder cancer, kidney malfunction or liver and spleen damage. 100% of Be One Percent donations are allocated to direct programme costs.
