Brighter Futures Ahead for 470 Rwandan Families through Pig Farming

Your November donation is making it possible to deliver vital training and support for parents in rural Rwanda to launch climate-resilient pig farming businesses. This funding will enable local trainers and vets to run hands-on workshops covering pigsty construction, animal nutrition, disease prevention and small business planning. The project will also provide the first pregnant sows to families, helping them breed piglets they can sell for income or share with other families in need.
This initiative focuses on families raising children with disabilities who often face higher costs, discrimination and food insecurity. By supporting parents, many of them women, to start sustainable pig farming businesses, they will be better able to pay for medical insurance, travel to hospital appointments and provide nutritious food. Parent Support Groups will also be set up to offer emotional support, peer learning and plans to register as cooperatives for long-term growth.
Thanks to your support, 470 families will gain the training and tools they need this year to build secure livelihoods and brighter, more inclusive futures for their children.
Chance for Childhood’s vision is a world where no child is forgotten. They believe that no child should have to fight for a safe, happy childhood, yet millions of children in Africa are out of school, and are often threatened by violence, neglect and conflict. With 30 years of experience in the DRC, Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda, they specialise in providing access to inclusive education and safe spaces, so that children can play, grow, learn, and thrive, from their early years through to adulthood. This means ensuring that children have their basic needs met, but also tackling the challenge of poverty facing their families.
