This month we are shaping the futures of 2,000 school children in the remote rural area of Srei Snam District in Northwest Cambodia.

We’re partnering See Beyond Borders who are mending the scars left by the Cambodian Genocide of the 1970’s. 75% of teachers and 96% of university graduates were among the 1.7 million people killed by the Khmer Rouge Regime.

Decades later schools are still suffering. Only 35% of teachers have a degree, professional development is limited and rural children are in class 50% less than their urban counterparts.

See Beyond Borders are on a mission to improve teacher capability. With our grant they will train and support ten experienced teachers to be mentors. Armed with newfound knowledge and skills they will reach 50 less experienced teachers with in-depth classroom mentoring that goes beyond textbooks. Your contribution is the key that’s unlocking the doors to a brighter future for these educators and, consequently, the 2,000 children they guide.

SeeBeyondBorders improves the quality of education in Cambodian government primary schools through evidence-based programmes, research and policy input into teacher development. In Cambodia, SeeBeyondBorders provides training and mentoring to school teachers in areas where they need the most support - maths, literacy, and classroom management. They engage parents and other community members to build an understanding of the value of educating their children and work with the local and national government to foster a commitment to improving the education system nationally. The Ministry of Education has nationally recognised SeeBeyondBorders' teacher mentoring initiative for its contribution to developing a national mentoring framework. It has also been internationally recognised for its innovative approach to teacher development and positive impact on student learning, as evidenced by its UNESCO Prize for Outstanding Practice and Performance in Enhancing the Effectiveness of Teachers.
