Lifesaving health and nutrition help for 300 displaced people in Ethiopia

Charity Partner
Our November 1% will go to a new charity partner to help bring essential medical and nutritional support to displaced communities in one of the poorest nations in the world.
The ongoing conflict in northern Ethiopia has left more than 5 million people needing humanitarian help. Large areas of Tigray, where many families were already facing extreme poverty, remain practically inaccessible.
Our grant with Medair, a humanitarian charity who save lives in the world’s hardest to reach places, will help around 300 people hope for a better future. This project is more than just crisis response. It promises to help affected communities recover and build resilience as well as share key health and hygiene awareness so that good practices are adopted encouraging positive behaviour for years to come.
They are setting up community-led Mobile Health and Nutrition teams providing essential care to around 350,000 people (particularly under 5’s) as well as delivering sanitation and hygiene and non-food item kits to families living in temporary shelters. Our grant is enough to fund treatment for 325 acutely malnourished children or provide 300 vulnerable families with access to clean water and hygiene items.
For more than 30 years, Medair has been responding to emergencies and crisis situations around the world, specialising in the areas of Health and Nutrition, Shelter/Non-Food Items (NFIs) and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH). Their values – hope, compassion, dignity, accountability, integrity and faith – shape their work and put the people they serve at the centre of what they do. They believe that each life matters and where you live should not determine whether you live.
Throughout our partnership 100% of our Be One Percent grant will be allocated to direct programme costs.
