Be One is proud to partner with Action Village India for our March grant. For over three decades, AVI has worked alongside marginalised communities to build sustainable futures through community-led projects rooted in long-term change.
In Sivagangai District, Tamil Nadu, 72% of the population belongs to marginalised and indigenous communities, with many families relying on rain-fed farming to survive. Erratic rainfall, rising temperatures and worsening soil health are making agriculture increasingly unstable, forcing families into cycles of debt and, in some cases, migration into low-paid urban work.
The project you have funded supports farmers to adapt and thrive long term. It focuses on regenerative farming and climate resilience, introducing water conservation systems, soil health improvements and diversified income opportunities such as livestock rearing and fruit planting. These solutions not only strengthen farming but help families build more secure and sustainable livelihoods.
Thanks to collective giving, this project will directly support 500 farmers and their families, helping create stable incomes while strengthening climate resilience for approximately 2,500 people.
Action Village India (AVI) is a UK-based charity founded in 1989, dedicated to supporting rural communities in India to achieve sustainable livelihoods, social justice, and improved well-being. AVI partners with grassroots organisations across India, who are deeply rooted in Gandhian principles of nonviolence, equity, and self-sufficiency. Their approach prioritises building long-standing solidarity and partnerships over traditional funding cycles, allowing them to remain responsive to community needs to address poverty, gender inequity, and limited access to resources for marginalised communities.
