Your August donation helped us raise £2,903.48 for the Gumbi Permaculture Community Training Centre supporting families in rural Malawi. The funding will provide two solar-powered water pumps, helping farming communities grow more food, improve harvests and reduce the risk of hunger during the long dry season.

In the Gumbi region of central Malawi, most families rely on small-scale farming to survive. However, there is often little or no rain for seven months of the year, and increasingly unpredictable weather patterns caused by climate change make it even harder for families to grow enough food. Many households currently depend on a single harvest each year, leaving them vulnerable to food shortages and hunger. These solar pumps will allow farmers to irrigate their crops using water from shallow wells, making it possible to grow food throughout the year. Combined with training in permaculture and water conservation techniques, the pumps will help families increase yields, strengthen food security and build greater resilience to climate change. Most importantly, the project will help transform one annual harvest into two, supporting around 300 people to move beyond food poverty and build a more secure future.
