Arsenic is a slow killer which cannot be smelled, tasted or seen; up to 20 million people in Bangladesh ingest it regularly through their water, either unknowingly or because they have no choice. The most cost-effective and environmental way to remove the threat of arsenic, iron and bacteria in the water supply is through fitting a SIDKO plant. This whole- village filtration system can generate 280 litres of safe water per hour and consists of a stainless-steel overhead water tank, reserve water tank and removal filters. Our 1% this month will reach 2,000 people in the rural District of Chuadanga where our newest partners IMPACT have been working for years and are trusted by local people. A community will be identified with priority for those who have a high number of households with a disabled member or are headed by a female to ensure that the beneficiaries are amongst the poorest and most vulnerable. The plant takes 4-6 weeks to fit and once it’s in place can supply clean water for drinking, cooking and growing food for the whole village to prosper.

IMPACT is a charity dedicated to preventing and treating needless disability worldwide. We believe that no one should become or remain needlessly disabled through disease, lack of knowledge or shortage of medical services.  IMPACT’s doctors, surgeons, midwives and healthworkers ‘take the hospital to the people’ through innovative means, such as a hospital train in India; a floating hospital in Bangladesh;. our mobile clinics in Cambodia, India, Kenya, Nepal, Tanzania and Zanzibar take medical care to people who would otherwise have no place to turn in the event of ill health. Malnutrition, lack of clean water, sanitation and communicable diseases all exact a heavy toll in low-income countries. IMPACT addresses this through straightforward schemes such as home gardens to ward off malnutrition; immunisation to protect against disease; medical and antenatal care to safeguard health; education to empower communities with skills and knowledge; and safe water and sanitation projects to avert the spread of illnesses, which can cause disability and threaten lives.
